Shopping for local produce
Local Produce Guide - the taste and flavour of the North York Moors
For those who love shopping there’s a new experience awaiting in the North York Moors! No, not a huge new multi store, just dozens of small, friendly local stores and superb local produce.
Our new 2008 Local Produce Guide will enable you to find local food producers, craftworkers and outlets where you can buy them. The Guide is available from our online shop for £1 (plus postage) or alternatively you can view the guide at the Inspired by ... website.
Village shops are a fundamental part of their local communities. In addition to everyday essentials, you may be offered a range of produce, including fresh vegetables, local preserves, honey, eggs, organic products and environmentally friendly detergents. These shops cater for local people and visitors. Some sell wines and spirits, many sell local craft material, maps and guidebooks and, of course, postcards and stamps. If there is a post office counter, they may also provide some banking facilities and currency exchange.
There may be a traditional butcher’s shop, the sort that has disappeared from so many of the larger towns and cities around the country. Take advantage of the quality of their products, many of which are likely to be produced on the premises. You are bound to notice the difference and go back for more!
These local businesses are specialist outlets for a commodity which is difficult to buy...the personal touch. Try it...we think you’ll like it!!
